Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet gets trimmed and sharpened in this fresh adaptation from Theatre B’s Artistic Director, Jon Micheels Leiseth. Set in an imagined world that fuses the styles from the Italian Renaissance and 1940’s Italy, this fresh take is full of momentum, movement, and music that is thoroughly modern. Amid this sumptuous danger, the ‘star-crossed lovers’ attempt to bridge the boundaries that the authority and family have set to keep them apart. True enough to the original for the fans of the Bard, crisp and clear enough for the easily bored, with twists to intrigue the familiar. Join us to experience this exciting collaboration between Theatre NDSU and Theatre B!

ABOUT BRIGIT PACHER Dr. Brigit Pacher is an artist determined to positively impact students, audiences, and collaborators with her art. She is delighted to carry out this mission as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Music at Lawrence University and Conservatory, a position she has held since Fall 2023. By emphasizing creativity and individualized instruction at every stage in the learning process, Pacher collaborates with students to inspire a lifelong journey of learning and creating as 21st-century musicians. She directs the Viking Bassoon Ensemble, an inclusive bassoon community that builds the skills of collaboration and creativity with three yearly performances. Recently, this ensemble has shared an interactive video game concert, a karaoke collaboration, and a performance at the Wisconsin Music Educators Association Conference. Pacher advocates for new music as a member of two contemporary chamber groups: Density512 and the SoundMap Ensemble. She has won the opportunity to be featured as a soloist with the Phoenix Symphony, National Repertory Orchestra, University of Texas Symphony Orchestra, and Vanderbilt University Orchestra. As well as being a semifinalist in the Meg Quigley Vivaldi Competition (2023), she has recently placed first in the National Bassoon Meetup Artistry Competition (2021), the Young Texas Artist Music Competition (2022), and the First International Bassoon Tango Competition (2022). She held a previous appointment as Principal Bassoon of the Victoria Symphony Orchestra in Victoria, TX (2021-2023) and maintains an active orchestral freelance career. Applying her degree in mathematics, Pacher’s previous research involved the development of an affordable and long-lasting reed enhancing technology. In collaboration with engineers and a chemist, this interdisciplinary team co-founded Fermata Reed Inc. This company focused on increasing accessibility to music by minimizing economic barriers to learning reed instruments. Her current research applies her acoustic perspective to the authorship of an intonation bassoon pedagogical text. Brigit Pacher enriches her musical life with painting, board games, and a love of flowers. She is a new member of the Appleton Curling Club and enjoys taking care of her bonsais. Originally from Phoenix, Arizona, Pacher loves Wisconsin weather and hopes to one day own a herd of alpaca.

Theatre NDSU and The Challey School of Music proudly present this iconic tale of love, hope, and resilience! The Sound of Music tells the story of the young nun, Maria, who is sent to the Von Trapp family to serve as governess for seven unruly children. There she teaches the children to sing and gradually captures the heart of Captain Von Trapp, only to have their world splintered by the invasion of the Nazis. Based on the true story of the Von Trapp Family Singers, The Sound of Music reminds us that hope can be found and transformed into courage, and with heartfelt compassion and determination, every mountain can be climbed. Come experience this beloved musical, and let your heart be filled with THE SOUND OF MUSIC!
